🌼 Backyard Foraging: Dandelion Magic

Did you know those bright yellow blooms and lush greens popping up in your backyard are not only edible but packed with health benefits? Dandelions can support liver health, digestion, and provide a nutrient-rich boost to your meals.

Try This Simple Harvest & Use:

  • Harvesting Tip: Pick young, tender leaves and bright blossoms from unsprayed areas.

  • Easy Use: Toss dandelion greens into salads, sauté lightly with garlic and olive oil, or steep blossoms in hot water for a soothing tea.

Quick Recipe: Dandelion Blossom Tea
Place a handful of clean dandelion blossoms into a mug. Pour boiling water over and steep for 5-7 minutes. Strain, add a spoonful of honey, and enjoy your calming spring brew!

Recipe: Dandelion Root & Orange Digestive Bitters

Bitters stimulate digestive enzymes, helping you break down food and absorb nutrients better. Dandelion root is particularly helpful for supporting liver health, while orange adds flavor and vitamin C.

Ingredients & Supplies:

  • 1 cup fresh dandelion root or ½ cup dried

  • 1 navel orange, organic including pith, chopped

  • 1 teaspoon gentian root (optional)

  • 2 cups plain vodka

  • quart jar, strainer/cheese cloth

Directions:

  1. If using fresh dandelion roots, scrub, rinse and finely chop.

  2. Combine dandelion root, orange peel, and gentian root if using in a quart jar.

  3. Pour vodka over herbs, ensuring they are fully submerged.

  4. Cap the jar and store on a cool counter out of direct light for 2 weeks, shaking gently every few days.

  5. Strain into a clean jar or other glass bottle

Benefit: Digestive bitters support liver function, reduce bloating, and enhance nutrient absorption by stimulating your digestive system. Take ½ tsp 15min before meal time, holding on your tongue for a few seconds before swallowing.

🛀 Self-Care Spotlight: Spring Detox Bath

Welcome spring by cleansing and rejuvenating your body and mind.

Detox Bath Recipe:

  • 1 cup Epsom salts

  • ½ cup baking soda

  • Fresh dandelion blossoms (optional)

  • A few drops of your favorite essential oil (lavender is calming)

Combine all ingredients in warm bathwater and soak for 20-30 minutes. Feel refreshed, grounded, and ready to bloom!

FOOD
  🍽️ FOOD: Spatchcock Chicken Dinner

How to Spatchcock a Chicken:

  1. Place the chicken breast-side down on a cutting board.

  2. Using kitchen shears, cut along each side of the backbone to remove it.

  3. Flip the chicken over and press firmly on the breastbone to flatten it.

Scratch-Made Dinner:

  • Season the spatchcock chicken with olive oil, salt, pepper, and your favorite herbs.

  • Roast at 425°F (220°C) for about 40-45 minutes until crispy and cooked through.

  • Serve with roasted vegetables or fresh greens from your garden.

Bone Broth Tip:

  • Don’t discard the chicken spine! Use it to make nutrient-rich bone broth by simmering it with vegetable scraps, herbs, and spices for several hours. Strain and enjoy as a warm drink or cooking base.
